"Mana Wahine" is 1 of 5 new original paintings by Sofia Minson that will be on show at The Real Opotiki Exhibition from 26 July onwards at Number 1 Ponsonby Rd.
The place will be brimming with contemporary paintings, Maori weaving, sculpture and photography by over 20 artists who have strong connections to Opotiki.
Five brand new original paintings by Sofia Minson will be on show at the launch of The Real Opotiki Art Exhibition at 6:30pm on Tuesday 26th July (exhibition runs until 18th August 2016).
The first piece "Mana Wahine" (pictured left) is a framed oil portrait, which celebrates the strength and endurance of Maori women. The other four pieces are highly detailed acrylic paintings from Minson's native New Zealand bird series.
The Auckland based artist's mum grew up on a sheep and beef farm in the Bay of Plenty and her family spent summer holidays in Opotiki with her grandparents while she was growing up.
Now things have come full-circle and Minson says:
"I am thrilled to be involved in an exhibition that not only showcases the talent of nationally and internationally recognised Opotiki artists, but also benefits the local community."
45% of sales are going towards a new community space, research centre and library planned for the Opotiki district called Te Tahuhu o te Rangi.
