In 2005 I was honoured to be awarded with 1st prize at the Auckland East Arts Council Art Competition for my work "The Separation of Rangi and Papa."
The contemporary, minimalist work tells the Maori creationary story of the separation of the divine sky father and earth mother by their children who lived in Te Ao Pouri, the dark realm, between them.
This award was received in the same year as my painting Saffron Monk was awarded 1st prize at the 2005 Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award.
