The story of In My Backyard

"In My Backyard" is an exploration into Sofia's dreamscape based on an Aotearoa out of time and space. The primordial Ponga tree and Moa - intricately and symbolically connected to the land via a system of roots gouged out of the black paint - stand in contrast to the vibrant nebulae of the night sky. The colours of the boundles universe illuminate the world from which the viewer gazes. The vast and the very near are brought together, one can see on canvas that which cannot be seen. Such is the magic of art.
