The story of Ko Hikurangi Te Maunga

"Ko Hikurangi te Maunga" was motivated by Sofia's respect for her Māori heritage. The surreal landscape celebrates an ancient Māori proverb used by her iwi/tribe - Ngāti Porou. They are words of identity, which confirm a sacred connection to the land and people of Sofia's tipuna/ancestors:

Ko Hikurangi te maunga 

Ko Waiapu te awa 

Ko Ngāti Porou te iwi 

Hikurangi is the mountain 

Waiapu is the river 

Ngāti Porou is the tribe
