The story of Lake Tekapo
Lake Tekapo, in the centre of the South Island is one of the most photographed sites in New Zealand. The icy blue color of the water comes from the glacial deposits of the Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers near by.
Sofia presents her surreal vision of the well-known landscape, combining elements of prehistoric Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Maori mythology. The sensuous curves of Papatuanuku (earth mother) lie within the hills and four distant Pouakai - a now extinct native bird species with an enormous wing-span of up to three metres - emerge from the mist and glide over the glowing, snowy mountain range.
