The story of Ocean Mandala

"Ocean Mandala" was inspired by the Pacific Ocean. It is made from washes of cooling blue, watery acrylic paint with the detail in white flashe, an ink-like vinyl based paint.

Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning 'circle' and is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the Universe. Here, Sofia has created a design that incorporates the double spiral, a cosmic symbol of creation from Maori and Pacific traditions.

The radial balance and cooling effect of this painting is intended to create a sacred space, a stillness in our minds, in which we connect with the most primary element of life - water.
