The story of Original Birth

"Original Birth" is inspired by Sofia's deep respect for the land and Maori mythology of New Zealand. The painting depicts the birth of the first children of Ranginui (sky father) and Papatuanuku (earth mother). The first signs of life sprout from crevices in the rocks of Papatuanuku. The children begin their emergence into the dark world between their parent's close, comforting and eventually stifling embrace.
