The story of Rest

A nude pregnant woman lies flesh-on-flesh with Papatūānuku, the Earth Mother. She is surrounded by a womb of darkness, Te Pō. We get the sense that from this deep rest and deep night, a generation or regeneration is occurring. We are mid-way in a cycle of death and rebirth. With the surreal scale of the tall purple flowers shooting out of the landscape, this divine feminine painting feels fairy-like. Emerging from the deep night, new birth is on its way. Life always finds a way.
